I have to admit, when I first watched "Something Blue" in class, I had not yet seen Blue Velvet and didn't understand the humor of what seemed to be a normal theatrical advertising of the movie. After watching the movie and listening to the discussions in class, I realized that this was not only a perfect parody of the movie in a normal sense-by that I mean, this movie clearly does not fall into the category of a murder mystery (despite what AFI seems to think) and yet this video clip is making it seem as such, in its stereotypical Hollywood fashion- but also because this demonstrates exactly what the idea of Blue Velvet is about. David Lynch made this movie with no one in mind but himself and used it as sort of a spring board to satirize how movies are made. How they cater to the intended audience and give them what they expect.
